Oxen team hauling logs

Oxen team hauling logs

Oxen teams numbering 16 to 20 animals were a common sight in northern California lumber camps until nearly 1895. Oxen pulled giant redwood logs from the forests along skid roads made of small, green logs. Each ox pair known as a "span" could pull more than 4,000 pounds.
